Ueshiro-Bayashi Ryu Karate is a Shorin-Ryu style of karate from Okinawa, which has been developed over hundreds of years by many generations of Okinawan karate masters. Ueshiro-Bayashi Ryu is so named in honor of Master Ansei Ueshiro.

The Ueshiro-Bayashi Ryu Karate system, founded by Lyle Kleusch, continues to train Shorin Ryu karate in the same time-honored methods of the Okinawan masters. For a thousand years, the Okinawans took all the forms of martial arts they encountered and incorporated them into their training. It is only in modern times, the last 100 years, that the systematic exclusion of the study of other arts took place, as the Okinawans tried to conform to strict, Japanese standards.

Ueshiro-Bayashi Ryu returns to the ancient tradition. All forms are considered and evaluated, to determine any relevance to Shorin Ryu karate's applications of kata, bunkai and philosophy.

With this in mind we strive to develop harmony in mind, body and spirit both on and off the deck. Self defense, courage and control are our watchwords.

All people, of any age, experience or background can benefit greatly from Ueshiro-Bayashi Ryu Karate Do. We invite you to join us.

See you on the deck! Shihan Kleusch
